Why this job: This is an amazing opportunity for a mission-driven professional that is passionate about farm-to-table dining and healthy eating. The Pre-Opening Chef will support the development of a brand new kitchen in the West Village.

Position Overview: The Pre-Opening Chef is responsible for supporting the overall success of the full-service kitchen team, which will cook innovative, creative, and seasonal dishes. This person will support the Executive Chef and Culinary Director with all phases of food preparation, cooking, and serving.

Position Responsibilities:
Under the leadership of the Executive Chef, manage the daily preparation, cooking and service of all food, ensuring the kitchen is running efficiently.

Inspire the kitchen team to uphold a standard of excellence by ensuring professional best practices on a daily basis and compliance with sanitation, health, and safety standards.

Assist with the development of recipes and ensure the successful execution of meals, proper food handling activities, safety and sanitation procedures, food sharing and waste reduction initiatives.

Support the Executive Chef and Culinary Director with food inventory and forecasting.

Serve in the role of Executive Chef, if/when necessary

Minimum of 5+ years of demonstrated experience as a Sous Chef, or relevant food services role

Completion of formal training in a culinary arts program, strongly preferred

Superior cooking skills; strong understanding of cooking best practices, kitchen equipment, ingredients and processes

Ability to effectively manage daily kitchen operations with a kitchen \"start-up\" team
Possession of the New York City Food Protection certification

Superior organizational skills and attention to detail

Accountability: The Sous Chef will report directly to the Culinary Director.

Compensation: The Sous Chef earns a competitive salary in the range of $58,500 to $75,000 per year, based on the individual's experience level, with benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance, 403b retirement plan, STD, LTD and Life Insurance.
